On the occasion of the celebration of 25 years of academic excellence, the Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad, is organizing a National Conference on Frontiers in Plant Biology. The event will cater a knowledge feast as it aims to bring leading Indian Plant scientists working in the frontier research areas together and provide them a forum for sharing their immense experience in the field to inspire and encourage young researchers.


Department of Plant Sciences

The Department of Plant Sciences is established under the School of Life Sciences in 1993. It provides professionally-balanced training to the students in modern Plant Sciences to enable them to choose careers in both advanced teaching and high-quality research. The Department offers M.Sc. in Plant Biology & Biotechnology, M.Sc. Molecular Microbiology, and Ph.D. in Plant Sciences. The Department has received international funding like the AP-Netherlands Biotechnology Programme, Humboldt Foundation, International Atomic Energy Agency, Rockefeller Foundation, Volkswagen Foundation, USDA, Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research, the European Union, Indo-UK, Third World Academy of Sciences apart from all national funding agencies. The major areas of research in the Department include Plant Physiology, Plant-Microbe Interactions, Functional Genomics, Plant Biotechnology, Systematics of Plants and Bacteria, Medicinal Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology and other related frontier areas of Plant Sciences. The Department of Plant Sciences has made significant contributions and earned the reputation of being one of the best Departments for teaching and research in India and abroad.
